Water safety

The Cobram Courier - - NEWS -

As the weather heats up, it is timely reminder for all to be safe around water.

Moira Shire has waterways such as the Murray River and a large number of private pools and spas, so it is important to make sure pools and spas are fenced correctly.

Safety barriers are no substitute for active adult supervision.

Pool fencing laws ● If a Victorian pool or spa has a depth of 30 cm or more, it has to be surrounded by safety barrier. This includes inflatable pools. ● All pools and spas built after 2010 require a four-sided barrier with no direct access from the house or any other building. ● Safety barriers must be a minimum of 1.2 m high. ● Barrier gates must be self-closing and self-latching. ● It is illegal to leave a pool or spa gate propped open. ● Climbable objects such as pot plants, eskies, pool pumps and chairs must be away from barriers.
