Community strengthening grants open

- By Isabelle Harris

Applications for Moira Shire Council’s community strengthening grants worth $10,000 are now open, aimed at supporting community enriching projects.

However, if a project is on council land or at a facility owned by the council, a community project proposal form from the shire needs to be completed first.

Mayor Libro Mustica said the requirement was a small change and encouraged applicants to read the grant guidelines before applying.

“Read the community strengthening grants guidelines which include information on eligibility, exclusions and terms and conditions prior to applying,” he said.

The grant program is designed to fund arts and culture events or exhibitions, community events, health promotion and environmental sustainability.

“(They) help facilitate projects which enrich the whole community and can assist in the development of service, management of facilities, the coordination of events and promotion of health or environmental sustainability in the community,” Cr Mustica said.

He said arts and culture events could include hosting events or exhibitions, or workshops to develop community art projects. Health promotion projects could include projects supporting active and healthy lifestyles or community education about drugs, alcohol or mental health.

Grants for sustainability projects can cover water saving facilities and energy or emissions savings like efficient fixtures or appliances, solar systems and efficient heating, cooling and lighting. ▯ Applicants can apply online until March 24.
