The Cobram Courier



Another busy week for the bowls club. Monday: Ladies social day where nine players arrived and they played triples. Winners were Joan Boyer, Elaine Blizzard and Heather Crosthwait­e.

Tuesday: Medley pairs where we had 16 teams battling it out for the prizemoney.

The winners of the day were the combinatio­n of Peter Velardo and Ziggy from Yarrawonga. Second with two and half wins were John and Karen Bruce.

Best first-game winners were Gavan Cullen and Jim Escott.

Best second game was Chris Philpot and Chris O'Donnell from Tocumwal Golf and best thirdgame winners were the Graeme Searle and George Lockman combinatio­n. Wednesday: Big working bee at the club where we managed to cut, lift and roll all the carpet and under-felt in preparatio­n for the work to be done this week starting on Monday. As well there was a ladies’ trade day at Tocumwal Golf. Thursday: Midweek training morning at the club. Friday: Division one midweek pennant had a surprising but enjoyable win over Cobram and division two had a big win over Katandra, putting them into third place.

Saturday: Division one pennant won over Strathmert­on to place them third on the ladder with two games to go.

Division two had a five-shot win over Finley at Finley. Division three was the shock loss for the weekend, going down to second-placed Numurkah, however they still remain on top of the ladder, but will need to take a good look at themselves with finals coming up. Division four defeated Cobram at Cobram by six shots.

Sunday: The club triples got under way with John Bruce, Fran Thatcher and Marie O'Brien having a win over Archie Ellis, Val Toohey and Jim Escott.

This coming week we have mixed pairs matches to be played as well as triples matches. Ladies’ trade day at Numurkah. Men's trade trade on Thursday and a club delegates meeting 10am to be held at Barooga on Tuesday as well as the laying of the new carpet.
