Local scouts and guides take to the air waves
COFFS Harbour and District Amateur Radio Club recently hosted Jamboree on the Air for local scouts and guides.
This international Jamboree encourages scouts and guides groups to make contact through the Amateur Radio airwaves.
Groups in New Zealand, USA, Spain, Germany, UK and around Australia with children as young as six using the microphones were contacted by our locals.
Morse code was also of great interest to the guides and scouts as they composed and received messages using only dots and dashes.
The whole exercise was possible thanks to the assistance of the volunteer radio operators Fred VK2FM, Eric VK2ES, Tony VK2VF, Alan VK2HQY, Frank VK2FANK, Les VK2CPC and the scouts and guides leaders.
Many different subjects were covered by the children over the radio, reflecting the differing lifestyles in other countries including hobbies, pets, badges earned and school life.
