The great Australian dream is to own a home and property professionals play a role in making that happen. The largest occupation within the real estate sector is that of sales agents.
Their duties include appraising properties, obtaining listings of properties for sale, marketing the property, seeking out and introducing buyers, offering advice on market conditions, overseeing inspections, negotiating the sale and liaising with legal representatives.
About 7800 extra sales agents are forecast to be needed across Australia in the five years to May, 2022.
Another large occupation is that of property managers, who lease and manage property on behalf of property owners. They typically select tenants, collect rent, arrange repairs, market properties, negotiate leases and rent reviews, advise on rental markets and represent property owners at tribunal hearings. Other workers in the real estate industry include auctioneers, body corporate managers, buyer’s agents, valuers and administrative support staff.
