IT IS early days in the 30-year plan to create a 17,000-home community in Yarrabilba but that was part of the attraction for Rachel and Tristan Tisdell.

Previously living in Logan, the Tisdells moved into their new four-bedroom home before Christmas.

“We moved here for what it’s going to be, not what it is,” Ms Tisdell said.

“There is a lot of infrastructure planned for out here, like shops and schools. We got in while it was still cheap, before everything goes in.”

Ms Tisdell said she liked the community feel, and the location suited them.

Lendlease recently released 20 blocks at its newest precinct, The Avenues, which is close to the future primary school site, and with community centre, secondary school and sport fields planned for nearby.

Blocks range from 320sq m to 690sq m, with land priced from $165,500 and house and land from $358,500.

Planning for Yarrabilba’s first district centre includes commercial and community infrastructure to open within two years, including tavern, convenience store and medical centre.

Lendlease’s Communities managing director Matthew Mears said Yarrabilba had record breaking sales over the past couple of months.

“Yarrabilba is a living example of Lendlease’s continuing efforts to set new standards for the future of community design, creating places where people feel like they belong,” he said.

The 2012ha site will become home to more than 45,000 people over the next three decades, and Urban Development Institute of Australia Logan Branch president Finn Jones said Yarrabilba, as a satellite city, was an important connection in “triangle” of southeast Queensland’s urban hubs.

“It starts such a great transition, and connection, in terms of the way all of these areas may function together, rather than being a void inbetween,” he said.

Mr Jones said delivering infrastructure such as Yarrabilba was vital to Brisbane becoming a true “new world city” and able to compete on a global scale with the likes of Greater New York.
