The penthouse at 137 Moray Street was sold under the hammer September 12.
Number 15, a full-floor fourbedroom apartment in the 1970s vintage apartment block, boasted views from every room. On the market for the first time, it drew enormous interest, according to agent Maria Whealey of Space Property Agents.
She said the auction attracted a crowd of 30 people, who gathered on the rear balcony, with four registered bidders. Under the hand of auctioneer Nick Penklis, the bidding opened at $800,000 and soon escalated to $1.1 million before being sold for $1.2 million.
‘‘The couple who bought it had sold their home quickly and had been looking for a long time,’’ Ms Whealey said. ‘‘They loved the mix of the old with the new and never thought they’d be able to afford something like that.’’
