Ringing in a return to old ways
EVERYTHING old is new again and the retro revival in home design trends is extending to the home selling process itself.
Place West director Andrew Degn is revisiting the old tradition of ringing a bell to let the neighbourhood know an auction is about to begin.
“It’s been working a treat,” Mr Degn said. “If I get the bell out, over they come.”
Although he added that the bell ringing was best done a bit later in the morning.
On the auction front, Place Graceville agents Peter May and Brad Robson are celebrating the sale of Lindon, at 26 Sandon St, Graceville, last Saturday. The four-bedroom 1930s residence on 810sq m, owned by Mick and Angela Cullity, sold under the hammer for $1.1 million to a local couple, with four registered bidders and a crowd of 50 onlookers.
The Cullitys plan to stay in the suburb.
Viki and Paul Skerman are selling their five-bedroom Auchenflower home at 15 Rathdonnell St through marketing agent Glynis Austin, at Glynis Austin Properties.
The renovated Queenslander is on 810sq m and has city views. It will be auctioned on August 8.
And in the far north of the state, an award-winning stamp-inspired house that looks like a spaceship has changed agents, and asking price. Owned by stamp collectors Rodney and Marider Perry, the six-bedroom sustainable home, called Alkira, is set within 29.5ha of rainforest in Cape Tribulation. The property is now listed with Raine & Horne Port Douglas for $14 million – up from the $9 million asking price when the home won the top residential award at the Australian Institute of Architects’ Queensland awards last month.
Marketing agent David Cotton said the property was being marketed to cashed-up overseas buyers who would appreciate the privacy offered by the home, which is a 15-minute helicopter flight to Cairns International Airport from its helipad.
This renovated Queenslander at 15 Rathdonnell St, Auchenflower, will be auctioned next month; and (below) the award-winning Alkira in Cape Tribulation is being marketed to cashed-up overseas buyers.
