Fool’s gold

Re “Loaded dice” (Oct 3- 4): Australia seems to have this insatiable appetite to gamble. It is almost worn like a badge of honour, whether it is Lotto, Keno, scratch-its, raffles, sports betting or poker machines. All gamblers boast of their wins but the reality is most lose more than they win as the dice are in fact loaded. All we can hope for is that the projected “gambling tax” at least equates to the cost to society as a whole, so we have some way to mop up the mess that has benefitted the few and cost so many.
