A tug at the heartstrings
Mary-Rose MacColl’s poignant words about her relationship with her mother touched a chord in me (Wry Side, Oct 3-4). It is proof that unless the words are spoken, then we as children are often left with our own misperceptions about what our parents think of us. I am pleased Mary-Rose got to hear her mother say she was proud of her, as I too was surprised by my mother stating she thought I was amazing. She too was close to her end of days and had decided to part on good terms. Those are the things that stay with us when all the fuss of growing up has passed.
