LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
William McInnes’s column (Mar 27-28) allowed me to reflect on my schoolboy rugby league days in the 50s. Pride and passion are two terms used to motivate league teams. My coaches insisted on pride in the footy gear we wore, black footy boots to be polished with whitened laces and socks to be pulled up at all times. In the current NRL competition if only a team could all wear the same colour footy boots and have their socks pulled up for the entire game, pride could be reinstated. Cameron Smith is a fine example of footy pride I have never seen him play a game with his socks around his ankles.
