Noosa top restaurant shuts down

ONE of the state’s top fine diners, Berardo’s Restaurant, Noosa, has shut its doors, as the parent company went into voluntary administra­tion yesterday.

Director Jim Berardo said that performanc­e of the company’s other asset, the Noosa Internatio­nal Food and Wine Festival, sealed the restaurant’s fate, and that the decision was made with “deep regret and sorrow” due to financial reasons.

Berardo’s Restaurant has been operating for 16 years and regularly topped the country’s best restaurant lists.

Berardo, who has been the face and soul of the festival since its inception 12 years ago, hopes that the festival, regularly touted as “schoolies for chefs” will be back.

“We have to look at growing it and continuing it, because Queensland deserves it,’’ Berardo said.
