Spellers tie bee again
OXON HILL: The US National Spelling Bee has been tied for a second straight year with Vanya Shivashankar and Gokul Venkatachalam winners. The bee had not ended in a tie for 52 years, until last year.
Vanya’s final word was “scherenschnitte”, a German word for the art of paper cutting. After being told he would be co-champion if he got the next word right, Gokul did not even ask for a definition before spelling “nunatak”, an Inuit word referring to a mountain surrounded by glacial ice.
