Sharks spotted off Coast, hungry for real estate

- ALEX TILBURY

PROPERTY “sharks” are circling the Gold Coast and Brisbane more than ever as prices in southern states continue to skyrocket.

McGrath Estate Agents chief executive officer John McGrath said the Gold Coast property market was well and truly in recovery.

“With the Sydney market being the hottest I have seen in 20 years, the Gold Coast and Brisbane will be attractive to investors,” said the property doyen and star of Shark Tank ahead of his address to the Australasian Real Estate Conference on the Coast today.

He follows a host of international speakers at the conference including Samantha DeBianchi, the star of Million Dollar Listing Miami, who was invited to speak at the event by Mr McGrath.

Ms DeBianchi (pictured), who is a regular media commentator in the US on the real estate industry, said the Coast reminded her of her hometown.

“It is very similar to South Florida with the palm trees and fast-paced energy,” she said.

But the 30-year-old Fort t Lauderdale native told the 3800 attendees at the conference that she probably works in a much more competitive marketplace than local agents.

“Everyone has a realtor’s licence, even my dentist,” she said.

“The market is insane and there are not a lot of listings but a tonne of buyers.”
