Woolies in gift card glitch
WOOLWORTHS has cancelled more than $1 million worth of gift cards following a massive customer data breach.
The supermarket chain discovered on Saturday that it had mistakenly emailed the redeemable codes of almost 8000 gift cards to customers who had purchased them through discount website Groupon last week.
The email disclosed customer names and email addresses as well as a link to vouchers totalling $1,308,505.
It’s understood more than 1000 recipients were able to access the codes and begin shopping immediately. Some customers found their gift cards for $100 and $200 had essentially been stolen when they went to use them.
