House of horror razed
THE razing of a Cairns house where eight children died will be a cathartic milestone in the mourning process, locals say.
The Murray St property in Manoora became the scene of one of Australia’s most shocking massacres in December.
Four girls and four boys, aged between two and 14 years, were found dead inside.
The mother of seven of the children and aunt to the eighth, 37-year-old Raina Mer- sane Ina Thaiday, has been charged with their murders.
The house will be torn down today and there are plans to erect something to remember the children.
Community Healing Project co-ordinator Michael White says the revitalised site will provide a peaceful place of remembrance. “It will be a sombre moment (but) people are positively talking about moving forward,” he said.
