Hart’s final serve
DORIS Hart, a 1950s tennis star who was the second woman to complete a career Grand Slam, has died at age 89.
Hart, rated the world’s top women’s tennis player in 1951, died at her home in Coral Gables, Florida, the International Tennis Hall of Fame announced yesterday.
She was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969.
Hart became the first player in tennis history to complete a career boxed set, triumphs in all four Grand Slam events in singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Margaret Court Smith and Martina Navratilova also achieved the feat.
