Melbourne management plan gives Slater the night off
QUEENSLAND fullback Billy Slater has been ruled out of Melbourne Storm’s side for tonight’s clash with Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium.
Storm bosses yesterday decided they would take no chances with Slater as they looked to manage his shoulder until the season’s end, when he will undergo surgery.
Young gun Cameron Munster, who filled in for Slater for three weeks this season, will replace him.
Slater was one of Queensland’s best in the State of Origin opener in Sydney last Wednesday night.
Melbourne insists Slater did no further damage to his shoulder playing for the Maroons and he would miss only one game.
“We will rest Bill for this one and get him 100 per cent for the Panthers game (next round),” Storm football boss Frank Ponissi said yesterday.
“We just need to manage him through this Origin period as he pulls up sore after games.”
Storm’s other Origin stars – skipper Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Will Chambers – all trained strongly on Gosch’s Paddock and are confirmed starters for tonight.
The Roosters have five Origin players backing up tonight in Daniel Tupou, Michael Jennings, Mitchell Pearce, Boyd Cordner and Aidan Guerra.
