SHE always looks a million bucks but, when it comes to spending money, Jesinta Campbell is a frugal fashionista.

The 23-year-old former Miss Universe Australia yesterday announced the start of David Jones’ half-yearly clearance sale and was already adding items to her wish list in between outfit changes.

“This is cute,” she said, pointing to a designer top. “The worst thing about having to cover these clearance stories is that I’m shopping the entire time while I’m doing it and I’ve had my eye on a few things.”

Despite the sartorial distractions, the fiancee of AFL star Buddy Franklin stressed she was far from a spendthrift.

“I love a bargain and I am known to be quite frugal with my money,” she said.

“When it’s clearance time I think it’s important to stock up on your sheets, your bedding; I saw a great frypan down there before. It sounds boring but they’re the essentials you need.”

Campbell’s tip for navigating the crowds when the department store launched its clearance this morning was to stay “cool, calm and collected”.

“I did the Boxing Day sales so I feel like a pro at this now,” she said. “Comfortable shoes, a bottle of water, stay cool calm and collected; don’t get angry. There was one item that a girl took and it was the last one and I got a little bit upset, but I had to keep it to myself.”

The mid-year sales are widely known as providing some of the best bargains of the year, without the heat of the Boxing Day sales and the stress of the traditional Christmas rush.
