Compensation for firms hit in insulation debacle
BUSINESSES damaged by the closing of the Rudd Government’s botched home insulation program in 2010 are eligible for compensation.
All 5000 companies that took part in the program can apply for payouts for the next six weeks.
Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane (pictured) said the full cost would not be disclosed until after the scheme ended.
Businesses that were found to have defrauded the Government through behaviour such as claiming for houses that had insulation or did not exist could apply, but were unlikely to qualify, he said.
The amount paid will be decided by independent accountants Deloittes.
This latest round of compensation would draw a line under the long-running saga.
