Consult phone for your child’s head check up
A PHONE app that tells parents when to call an ambulance and coaches whether to let a child back on the field after a head injury has been developed to avoid ongoing damage from concussion.
Australia’s elite sports have strict concussion management policies, such as those that put St Kilda skipper Nick Riewoldt on the sidelines after a sicken- ing head clash last month. But Professor Vicki Anderson, director of clinical sciences research at Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, said concussion was poorly understood at amateur level.
“It has to be two or more symptoms after a blow to the head, including nausea, dizziness, headaches, fatigue and balance problems,” she said.
