Qantas ups flights to Kiwi cities
DAYS after Virgin Australia announced plans to ramp up flights to New Zealand, Qantas has hit back – in the clearest sign yet it is again “game on” between the two carriers.
The Flying Kangaroo will operate an additional 95 flights from Brisbane to Wellington and Christchurch between December and February to meet school holiday demand.
Qantas has also announced a fifth weekly flight between Sydney and Jakarta, and daily services between Perth and Singapore in the holiday period. The announcement follows Virgin Australia’s decision to add flights from October 25 out of Brisbane to Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Wellington.
Trans-Tasman air traffic is growing.
A record 1.3 million Kiwis came to Australia in the year to June, and about 1.2 million Australians visited New Zealand in the same period.
