Cops warned drug-mule surgeon, 91
A RETIRED 91-year-old oral surgeon was warned twice by authorities that he was likely being “groomed” by criminals, before his arrest for allegedly importing 4kg of cocaine disguised as soap.
Victor Twartz (pictured) faced a Sydney court yesterday on drug importation charges after his arrest at Sydney Airport last month. No pleas have been entered and he remains on bail until October.
Police said members of Twartz’s family had contacted them with concerns he was being paid to travel to India by people he had met online.
Officers visited Twartz and warned him it may be a scam.
Poice said Twartz was offered a “financial inducement” to go to lndia and, despite the police warning, he accepted.
Officers also visited Twartz in India to again warn him his trip was possibly a scam.
