Bron fails to snaffle $2500 in RSL raffle
AS IF Bronwyn Bishop’s week couldn’t have gotten any worse, it has now been revealed the former Speaker missed out on a $2500 prize at her local RSL club.
The cash prize was part of a weekly draw at her local Avalon Beach RSL club on Sydney’s northern beaches.
The Courier-Mail has confirmed with the club’s general manager Angus Rimmer that Ms Bishop’s name was drawn out as the weekly prize winner about 6.15pm on Monday.
“Her name was flashed on all the TV screens in the club and read out over the PA,” Mr Rimmer said. “Because she was not present the draw was then redrawn four minutes later.”
Other members chuckled when Ms Bishop (pictured) was announced winner of the prize, Mr Rimmer said. He said the second drawn member was also not present so the prize has now jackpotted to $2750.
The windfall came just a few hours after the former speaker watched Victorian MP Tony Smith take her job. She looked on, sullen and downtrodden.
Ms Bishop’s expression might have worsened when she discovered she could have made back almost half of the $5227 she was forced to repay for her infamous helicopter ride from Melbourne to Geelong.
