IT IS not good enough for just Japan to solemnly remember the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Every country should have stopped and remembered the savagery and madness of modern warfare, as it so often applies to ordinary civilians rather than to those in the military. To fail to acknowledg­e the terrible suffering of others makes us little better than barbarians with a selective memory. Merv C. Bartlett, Pallara
