Dope the great hope for pain sufferers
FEDERAL MPs pushing to legalise medicinal cannabis say they hope legislation can pass by the year’s end, with the issue enjoying broad support from all sides of politics.
A Bill by Greens leader Richard Di Natale – with the support of Liberal, Labor and Independent senators – is likel ly to be debated in a couple of months after a parliamentary c committee recommended it p pass with some changes.
Prime Minister Tony Abbott has already signalled he supports the issue, as Health Minister Sussan Ley (pictured) yesterday committed to consider the committee’s report.
“This Government is incredibly sympathetic to the suffering of those Australians with debilitating chronic pain and illnesses and we want to ensure they get access to the most effective medical treatments available,” Ms Ley said.
