Police search for Gold Coast gunmen after brazen shooting
POLICE are hunting two men who calmly walked through a crowded family resort on the Gold Coast and shot a guest in the stomach.
A 31-year-old Logan man was last night in serious but stable condition in hospital after emergency surgery to remove a bullet. His alleged attackers were still on the run.
It is believed police know the assailants after studying CCTV footage of the men calmly walking through the Crown Towers hotel in Surfers Paradise in plain sight.
The pair made no attempt to conceal their faces and left the scene in a silver sedan.
The drama unfolded just after 7.30am yesterday when the men knocked on the door of a sixth-floor apartment.
Moments later, a man lay bleeding on the ground. As his attackers calmly took a lift to the ground floor, the victim’s friends raised the alarm.
The man, and a woman who had been staying with him, spent much of yesterday helping detectives piece together details of the ordeal, while forensics officers (pictured) combed the unit.
The resort (left), one of Surfers Paradise’s most popular, is a haven for families. Guests were stunned to hear of the violence.
A spokeswoman for the Mantra Group, which operates the resort, said the apartment was privately owned and not part of the hotel operation.
The apartment’s owner did not return phone calls from The Courier-Mail.
The gunmen were described as being caucasian and in their mid 20s to early 30s.
