Socceroo in step with kids’ health
HE MAY be one of Australia’s biggest sports stars, but even Tim Cahill knows it’s not always easy to get your kids off the couch.
The veteran Socceroo and dad-of-four (pictured) says the key to a healthy childhood is making sure physical activity is always fun.
“I think some parents forget that it’s not about elitism,” he said. “I feel that so many people focus on their kids having to be the best at sport that it can be discouraging.”
It is this inclusive approach that attracted Cahill, who currently plays with Chinese super team Shanghai Shenhua, to Step-a-thon. With registration closing in days, Cahill urged kids to get on board.
“I have been involved in so many different organisations and charities, but what I like about this is that it’s different and interesting,” he said.
Kids earn sponsorship cash for every step from August 31 to September 6, with funds going to the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute.
