TENNIS bad boy Nick Kyrgios has fired back at Stan Wawrinka after suggestions he had not apologised for his lurid outburst towards the Swiss.

Wawrinka criticised Kyrgios on Wednesday after stating he had not made a proper apology for crude remarks concerning his reported girlfriend, teenager Donna Vekic.

“He didn’t really apologise to the people. He should. That’s it. That simple,” Wawrinka told reporters in Cincinnati.

Kyrgios triggered widespread revulsion for his on-court taunt to Wawrinka last week that fellow Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis had a fling with Vekic.

But Kyrgios, who was fined by the ATP for his remarks, insisted he had made private and public apologies following his outburst.

“I am not trying to take any more attention away from the matches in Cincy, but I have been reading reports that I did not apologise for my comments, which is untrue,” Kyrgios said in a statement posted on Facebook.

“I privately and publicly apologised immediately after the match last week.”
