Parents fly into U15s footy fight
A TEENAGE footballer could press criminal charges after he was allegedly held by an opposing team parent and bashed by rival players during a brawl at a junior rugby league match.
The Brisbane Junior Rugby League has been called in to investigate the shocking incident, which marred a nailbiting under-15s semi-final between Chambers Flat Mustangs and the Rochedale Tigers at Acacia Ridge’s Brandon Park on Sunday.
As Rochedale celebrated a one-point win in the Greater Brisbane Junior Rugby League division 3 clash, a fight broke out between the players before reserve players, parents and spectators invaded the field.
The brawl was captured on video, which the Queensland Rugby League is now trying to obtain. Officials from both clubs refused to comment but a witness described watching in horror as people flew in from everywhere.
It has been alleged the parent of a Chambers Flat player restrained a Rochedale junior physically so others could assault him.
Police are yet to become involved but it is understood the player and his parents are considering legal action.
QRL South East Division chairman Brad Tallon confirmed the investigation.
