Iran turns to cyber pain
IRANIAN hackers could be to blame for the scandalous attack on cheating spouse website Ashley Madison.
At least two people are believed to have committed suicide after almost 40 million Ashley Madison subscribers worldwide, including Queensland politicians and police, were publicly outed last week.
Speaking at a cybercrime conference on the Gold Coast yesterday, retired US Marine and hacking expert Lieutenant Colonel Bill Hagestad, said the Iranians may be responsible.
Mr Hagestad said Iranian hackers were intent on causing maximum “pain” to the west and the Ashley Madison hack had caused huge embarrassment to the extent it was now resulting in suicide.
Mr Hagestad said international hackers were sharing secrets to use in cyber attacks. GREG STOLZ
