A MACKAY man, 20, has been arrested after he strapped $240,000 worth of ice to his body and tried to smuggle it out of Brisbane Domestic Airport. The man was at the airport and on his way to Mackay on Tuesday when he was arrested with three separate packages strapped to his torso. Each bag contained a crystalline substance which was believed to be methylamphetamine.

A total of approximately 750 grams of the drug, with a value of $240,000 was seized.

The man was charged with possession of dangerous drugs and appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday morning.

He was remanded to appear again on September 28.

“Ice continues to be a drug of major concern to police and this seizure was significant in terms of the quantity seized,” Detective Inspector Mark Slater of State Crime Command’s Drug and Serious Crime Group said.
