First work by Tolkien
LONDON: The first prose work by Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien, described as “undeniably his darkest work”, is to be published.
The piece, a version of an epic Finnish poem The Story of Kullervo, was written while Tolkien was still a student at Oxford in 1914-1915.
The story is “the first time that J.R.R. Tolkien, who had been a poet until then, began writing prose”, expert Professor Vincent Ferre said.
It will be published today in Britain and is due to be released on October 27 in the United States.
