JUST US TWO,
BERNADETTE Thoroughgood has no children and has no regrets.
“I met my husband Gary about 10 years ago at age 35 so I suppose I was a late starter,” she said. “We have good incomes and have a great lifestyle and never felt anything was missing. I love the fact that we can afford to travel and have the money to do what we want to do with no ties. We have two dogs, which are our family.
“I have already seen a shift in society. I know a lot of couples without children who love their pets and I think that is the new family dynamic.”
Mrs Thoroughgood, who runs her own financial planning company with her husband, said while she was comfortable being a forty-something without kids she has been judged by other people who have even urged her to freeze her eggs.
“I hope as the years pass society will be a bit more accepting,” she said.
