Man jailed for murder

A MAN who bludgeoned his friend to death with a hammer and dumped his body in far north Queensland mangroves has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in jail.

It took a Supreme Court jury four-and-a-half hours yesterday to find 39-year-old Hamish Stewart Murray guilty of murdering Nicholas Collins in November 2012, five months before the 30-year-old’s skeletal remains were found in Cairns.

Murray had argued he’d committed the killing in self defence after he was choked by an ice-affected Mr Collins.
