PLAYING CAREER: 2008-present NRL GAMES: 168 POSITION: Hooker

Andrew McCullough signed with the Broncos from Dalby State High School when he was in Year 8, but to further his education moved to Brisbane to complete Year 12. At Brisbane State High School in 2007 he achieved his dream of playing for the Australian Schoolboys, alongside current Broncos teammate Ben Hunt. The following year, as an 18-year-old, he made his NRL debut for the Broncos. But McCullough has not forgotten his roots and annually presents awards to promising athletes at both his primary and secondary schools in Dalby. For the past three years he has donated two $500 cash prizes to a student at each school who does not have the financial support to further their sporting prowess. And he stipulates that the sporting stars who gain the awards must also be good citizens and diligent students. “I don’t want the winners to be kids who are just outstanding athletes,” Andrew stressed. “When I was growing up I was very lucky because my hard-working parents were able to financially support me. But not all kids are as fortunate as I was. “Being able to represent both my Dalby schools at sport was an honour, so hopefully through this assistance from me these students can also progress in their chosen sports.”
