Give him a break
AUSTRALIAN Simon Gerrans will aim to end his crash-cursed season with a big result at this month’s world road championships.
Gerrans and Michael Matthews will lead the national men’s elite road team in Richmond, Virginia, from September 20-27.
Nothing has gone right for Gerrans, who broke his collarbone in training last December 21 then sustained a cracked elbow in his comeback race in March. He also crashed twice during his title defence at Liege-Bastogne-Liege and and again in the Giro d’Italia before suffering multiple wrist fractures in a massive pileup at July’s Tour de France.
