PUPS IN THE SWIM SHAKE OFF NERVES

- PETER HALL

THIS is the ultimate place for a doggie paddle.

After operations costing their owners thousands of dollars, pets are lapping up healing hydrotherapy with specialist instructors.

Water-shy puppies are also gaining confidence with one-on-one swimming lessons in the 27C-30C pool at Canine Cubby at Yatala.

The business is the brainchild of Donna Bolton. The boxer owner and breeder said everyone thought all canines could paddle, but it was not true.

“Every five minutes in the pool is like an hour’s walk,’’ Ms Bolton said. “It builds fitness and strength.”

Swimming lessons for pooches also are becoming popular as more people realise not all dogs can swim.

“Some dogs are not born to swim,” Ms Bolton said.

“We start them off with life jackets and this gives them confidence.”
