Aussies ‘can’t say no to food’

-

DON’T blame bad genetics or busy schedules – Australia’s worsening obesity crisis comes down to people not wanting to say “no”.

Shannan Ponton of Channel 10 reality series The Biggest Loser Families said we have no one to blame but ourselves.

“We live in a free country where people have choices, and I think (that) too much of the time we say ‘yes’,” he said.

According to the Heart Foundation, 3.9 million Australians are obese and another 5.1 million are overweight.

Ponton rejects that people are too stressed or busy to take care of themselves. “People just think they are,” he said.

“By the time you’ve finished Tweeting, taken a selfie for Instagram and gone on Facebook to read all about the lives of people you haven’t seen in 10 years, of course you’ve run out of time to eat well.

“Why are you stressed? We live in one of the best countries in the world.”

The new season of TBL Families begins on Sunday at 7.30pm on Network Ten.
