MARVEL-OUS STARS COMING
QUEENSLAND has become the hot spot for Hollywood blockbusters.
With a number of major movies scheduled to begin shooting on the Gold Coast within the next year, it seems there is no stopping the Sunshine State filming boom.
And with these mega flicks come some mega Hollywood Alisters, who will be calling Queensland home for a short time.
Thor: Ragnarok is one of the biggest films due to be shot at Oxenford’s Village Roadshow Studios, and it means Australia’s own Chris Hemsworth will return Down Under, along with his on-screen brother, Tom Hiddleston.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Oscar winner Natalie Portman is also expected to reprise her role as Hemsworth’s love interest, Jane Foster, while rumours are heavy that we have not seen the last of Anthony Hopkins as Odin. Other stars who have featured in the previous films include Idris Elba as Heimdall and Jaimie Alexander as Sif. Marvel is also set to bring Captain Marvel to the Gold Coast, with a number of stars connected to the lead role.
Some of the biggest names rumoured to be in the mix include Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, while UFC champion Ronda Rousey has expressed interest.
Bryce Dallas Howard is also in the running, with the role viewed as a strong follow-up to her turn in box-office record-breaker Jurassic World.
Outside the Marvel universe, Kong: Skull Island is expected to start filming here this month. Not only does this mean Hiddleston will visit our shores twice within the next year, veteran star Samuel L. Jackson will be lured to the Sunshine State, as well as Brie Larson, while comedian John C. Reilly is another who has been connected to the franchise.
And if that’s not enough star power for Queensland, Blake Lively is another starlet who could be making her way Down Under thanks to thriller The Shallows.
