NEW COURT WILL KEEP JACARANDAS The State Government plans to preserve the jacaranda trees on the site of the present Supreme Court building in George Street, Brisbane, when it puts up a prestige building there. Cabinet is firm in its decision that the picturesqu­e but infirm Supreme Court building must be pulled down. Various interests have wanted to preserve the Old Supreme Court building on the grounds of its “old world charm”. But in Parliament on Thursday the Acting Justice Minister (Mr Chalk) said the Supreme Court had been built “on the cheap” by a short-of-funds colonial government and the building had never been known for its magnificen­ce or splendour.
