Cotton acreages up for sale
ONE of the country’s biggest cotton producers, Eastern Australia Agriculture, is trying for a third time to sell its Queensland farming portfolio.
The Kia Ora and Clyde properties in southern Queensland total 37,584ha and have an estimated combined valued of about $180 million.
Eastern Australia Agriculture, which is based in the Cayman Islands, purchased both cotton farms in 2008.
Touted as one of the largest irrigation assets in the country, the farms have 12,800ha of irrigated land and 7860ha of wheat planted in 2015.
According to a 2009 submission to the Productivity Commission, they produced more than 35,000 tonnes of wheat and 11,000 bales of cotton in 2008/09. The were on the market in 2013 and 2014.
