ROAD TO THE WORLD CUP
Halfpenny injury cruel for Wales
A POTENTIALLY devastating knee injury to Welsh superboot Leigh Halfpenny has cast a sombre mood over the Wallabies’ pool rivals for the Rugby World Cup.
Fullback Halfpenny, a star of the 2013 British and Irish Lions series win in Australia, was stretchered off in Cardiff early yesterday during the uninspiring 23-19 warm-up win by the Welsh over Italy.
Halfpenny buckled mopping up a kick in a non-contact situation and his tournament is in doubt.
IT’S not just the Wallabies with a headache at No.10, with England’s George Ford and Owen Farrell fighting for the prized jersey.
Ford’s stocks lifted with a more polished display in yesterday’s 21-13 tune-up win over Six Nations champions Ireland at Twickenham.
JAPAN’S Super Rugby side may be a pushover next year but not the Argentine side.
Their latest recruit is backrower Juan Manuel Leguizamon, set to play at his third World Cup and returning to his homeland after a decade playing in Europe.
