CRICKET WATSON PULLS STUMPS ON TEST CAREER P63
JARRYD Hayne’s stunning transformation from rugby league star to NFL player is finally complete.
The 27-year-old said he shed a tear when told he had made the San Francisco 49ers’ 53-man squad after turning his back on a lucrative NRL career to chase a dream.
Hayne’s next challenge is to earn a spot for the 49ers’ first game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings on Tuesday week.
“I know it’s going to go to another level,” Hayne said yesterday.
“It’s another new beginning. Training camp was a new beginning, the first trial was a new beginning and now I’m on the roster.
“There’s another mountain to climb. But I enjoy climbing mountains.”
It is a phenomenal achievement considering Hayne only played his first elite American football game three weeks ago.
