Child-swap con faces axe

“CHILD swapping” rorts costing taxpayers millions in the daycare sector will be abolished by Social Services Minister Scott Morrison today.

The practice involves families and their friends caring for each other’s children so they can claim childcare benefits.

Legitimate childcare operators often refer to the practice as creating “phantom children” who officially appear on the books of childcare operators but may not actually be under the facility’s care.

“The Government will not tolerate those taking advantage of the system and there will be consequences for those who break the rules,” Mr Morrison said.
