A FOUR-wheel drive was left hanging from a tree after it was hit by an out-ofcontrol vehicle in suburban Melbourne yesterday morning.

Police said an elderly driver put his foot on the accelerator instead of the brake while driving through Oakley.

His vehicle then surged forward and hit the 4WD which was sent into the air before dropping down to become wedged between a tree and a fence. The rear of the car was left sev- eral metres above the ground as it plunged nose forward.

The driver of the 4WD, a man aged in his 40s, suffered non-life threatening injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A witness said he saw a man hanging from the driver’s side door of the vehicle which was a metre off the ground.

An 83-year-old man and his female passenger were not injured.
