Day wins way on to Cup team
JASON Day heads the 10 players to win automatic selection on the International team for golf’s biennial Presidents Cup clash against the US.
World No.3 Day (above) is joined by fellow Australians Adam Scott and Marc Leishman, while Steve Bowditch, Matt Jones and John Senden are among the contenders for the two captain’s picks to be added by Nick Price.
Making up the rest of the team are South Africans Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace and Charl Schwartzel, Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and debutants Anirban Lahiri (India), Thongchai Jaidee (Thailand) and Danny Lee (New Zealand), who pipped Jones for an automatic spot.
The Presidents Cup will start in South Korea on October 9. The Internationals have won only one of the 10 contests, in 1998 at Royal Melbourne, and will again face a powerful US outfit, captained by Jay Haas.
