Woman charged after car hits partner

A WOMAN ran her partner down with her car outside their home southwest of Brisbane on Saturday night, it is alleged.

The man, 34, was standing in the driveway of the Saigon Place home in Inala when the woman allegedly hit him with her car about 11.20pm, police said yesterday.

The man, who is believed to be in a relationship with the woman, was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with leg injuries.

The 31-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a vehicle and wilful damage. She is due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police confirmed the pair were known to each other. However, it is unclear whether there were any domestic violence orders in place.

Domestic violence issues have been thrust into the spotlight following the shocking deaths of two women on the Gold Coast allegedly at the hands of former partners.

A six-year-old girl was also allegedly killed by her father in northside Brisbane as she lay in her bed.

Police figures reveal there were 16,654 breaches of domestic violence orders in 2014-15, an increase of 14 per cent from the previous year.

Bureau of Statistics data shows 33 per cent of victims of domestic violence were men.
