Watchdog bans Suncorp-linked financial planner

The Courier-Mail - - BUSINESS -

A FORMER Suncorp-linked financial planner accused of failing to make reasonable checks for clients has been banned from the sector for four years.

Gerald Grubwinkler, 48, was banned by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission from providing fi- nancial services, and has flagged on his LinkedIn page that he is “taking a break”.

Attempts to contact Mr Grubwinkler, who can appeal, were unsuccessful.

He had been an authorised Suncorp representative and a director of organisations including Citywide Insurance Brokers and Financial Planners, which was also an authorised Suncorp representative.

ASIC said surveillance of Mr Grubwinkler’s advice looked at his work between 2009 and 2016, when he was aligned to Suncorp. He had failed to act in his clients’ best interests, ASIC said.
