US rules out easy entry
WASHINGTON: The Trump administration has issued a new rule aimed at restricting asylum applications at the USMexico border by requiring people to make their claim at a point of entry.
The new asylum rule was issued by the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Department of Justice, which said it means people who enter the country illegally will be ineligible for asylum.
The President has the broad authority to suspend or restrict entry into the US if he determines it to be in the national interest to do so, they said.
President Donald Trump is preparing to issue a proclamation to assert the powers, and the rule changes were set to be formally published overnight, administration officials said. The proclamation is expected to be challenged in the courts.
